Recently, Bayern Munich is slowing down. In the last 5 matches, Die Roten won 2, drew 2 and lost 1. During this period, teachers and students Julian Nagelsmann lost 2 points in the Bundesliga and won a tough victory against Frankfurt last week. So what is the problem for Bayern at the moment?

It is easy to see that the personnel injury problem is affecting Julian Nagelsmann’s plans. In the recent reception to Leverkusen, Bayern lost two main left-backs, Lucas Hernandez and most especially from the case of Alphonso Davies. If Hernandez is susceptible to trauma, Davies’ situation is more complicated in the aftermath of COVID-19.

Davies and Hernandez were absent from the match against Leverkusen.

Without Hernandez and Davies, the left wing of Bayern is taken up by Omar Richards. And many times Richards made the home team’s fans heart flutter because of his ability to cover the area. The use of English players not only makes the left wing of Bayern appear many holes, but the club also lacks an attack plan in this area.

An important omission also comes from the midfield. Leon Goretzka has not set a return date since suffering an injury in early February. Joshua Kimmich cannot manage the midfield without an aggressive teammate and possessing a physical foundation like Goretzka.

Corentin Tolisso is the top name to side with Kimmich but the midfielder has just suffered an injury. So, a horizontal player like Jamal Musiala is forced to step back down to the center circle to help Nagelsmann apply the 4-2-3-1 system. If not, Nagelsmann can only position Kimmich in front of the back four and develop a different formation. This layout was unbalanced, leading to Bayern struggling, namely a 2-4 defeat to Bochum.

Goretzka’s injury caused Bayern to lack a good partner to side with Kimmich.

Not to mention that captain Manuel Neuer is still injured. Without a leader like Neuer, the Bayern defense revealed many shortcomings and carelessness. In 5 matches without Neuer, Bayern only whitened once and received 7 goals.

Obviously, many players’ injuries are holding Bayern back. Bayern will still be a formidable opponent once they have the best personnel. Only thing, at the present time, Die Roten needs to overcome the challenge of personnel in an important period of the season.
