Neville and Premier League Legends
The Bulgarian shared a dressing room with Neville and Anderson during four extremely successful years at Old Trafford. Berbatov was part of a squad that won 2 Premier League titles, 1 Champions League, 2 League Cups and the Club World Cup between 2008 and 2012.
At the time, Neville was in the twilight years of his United career, while Anderson was young and promising. However, Berbatov revealed the two are on different ends in terms of attitude in training.
He said: ” The person who is completely focused on training and creating every training session and working hard, I must say is Gary Neville. He usually works very hard in every training session. He has a professional attitude. great and he always wants to show that he’s better than the other players around. Even at that age, he shows young players that he’s better than them.”
Berbatov acknowledged Anderson’s obvious natural talent but said the player had once seriously let him down. ” The person who trained the worst… I have to say Anderson. Although he has a lot of qualities and talent, in training sessions he really let me down sometimes.”
Anderson made 181 appearances for the Reds in eight years from 2007 to 2015. However, he did not leave the Premier League as a successful player as initially expected.
Former United defender Rafael once claimed the midfielder could be “the best in the world” if he wasn’t so addicted to McDonald’s. Rafael writes in his autobiography: “We could be on the highway and Anderson would impulsively scream ‘McDonald’s, McDonald’s’.”
“Let him play football and he will play freely and sometimes, if he plays well, he can play as well as any player. He has a lot of serious injuries and after That’s when the problem of eating that way started to affect him.”
“It’s no coincidence that his best form comes when he’s playing a lot because that’s when he doesn’t eat much. I would say something about Anderson – if he were a footballer. pro, he could have been the best in the world.”
