In the context of Man United struggling with erratic form, young star Anthony Elanga emerged as one of the new and interesting discoveries of the Red Devils . The Swede has made 10 appearances this season, nine of which have come under manager Ralf Rangnick.
The faith of the German strategist has been well rewarded. Elanga played explosively, delivering an energetic performance. The 19-year-old morning star is active, actively playing pressing in Rangnick’s tactical system.
Elanga came on as a substitute in the match between Man United and Crystal Palace. He played the full 90 minutes in the match against Young Boys in the final round of the Champions League group stage.
Elanga is a face chosen by Rangnick regularly in the Man United squad in January. Good performance helps the guy born in 2002 attract special attention and affection from Red Devils fans.
Elanga was born and raised in Sweden. He is the son of former Cameroon national team player Joseph Elanga. In 2013, Elanga moved with her family to Manchester City.
Man United discovered the talent of the Swedish morning star. He joined the Red Devils academy and quickly rose through the different ranks. In the 2018/2019 season, Elanga scored 3 goals and provided 5 assists for the U18 team.
The following season, Elanga owned 10 goals. The impressive performance helped the Swede receive the Jimmy Murphy award (Manchester United’s Young Player of the Year).
Elanga’s talent caught the eye of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. In 2020, the 19-year-old morning star was introduced to the first team by the Norwegian strategist in a friendly match against Aston Villa before the season.
In the 2020/2021 season, Elanga shines in the U23 Man United shirt with 9 goals, 3 assists after 16 matches in Premier League 2.
Elanga can play flexibly on the attack in two positions: left striker or striker. He has an average scoring rate of 0.58 goals per 90 minutes of play.
Ole entered Elanga’s name on the registration list to play in the last 2 matches of the Europa League group stage 2020/2021 against Granada and AS Roma. The 19-year-old tomorrow star continued to leave her mark in two matches against Leicester City and Wolves in the Premier League after that.
Elanga scored his first goal for Man United in a 2-1 victory over Wolves in the 2020/2021 season. Ole gave praise to the student:
“ He has some qualities that you want in the squad: speed, direct play. Elanga is right-footed but his left foot is also very good. I think Elanga has a bright future and will continue to play explosively. I believe he will keep his feet on the ground and make the most of his talent.”
At the beginning of this season, Elanga returned to play for the Man United U23 team. He played explosively against Brighton, Everton, Liverpool and Blackburn. The reward comes to Elanga when Man United extend his contract until 2026.
Rangnick decided to put his trust in Elanga when using him as a substitute for Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Anthony Martial in January games. The ability to actively contest the ball and press is Elanga’s plus point in Rangnick’s eyes.
A bright future awaits Elanga if he continues to maintain the same form as the past time. The versatile play of the 19-year-old tomorrow star helps Rangnick easily rotate the squad, having an additional quality option on the attack; while reducing the load for two old generals Edinson Cavani and Cristiano Ronaldo.
