“In practice, it’s hard to beat Kepa on penalties. He has the ability to read opponents.”
Welcoming Plymouth in the FA Cup, Chelsea thought it would be easy to beat a lower-class opponent. But despite having the fulcrum of Stamford Bridge, the Blues had to go through a tough match. Unable to defeat the guests in official time, the home team needed Marcos Alonso’s goal in extra time to win tickets.
After Alonso’s 2-1 goal, Chelsea faced a penalty. Fortunately, goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga correctly judged and preserved a fragile victory for the Blues.
Due to the fact that coach Thomas Tuchel was infected with COVID and could not come directly to the field, assistant Arno Michels was the director in the technical area. Speaking after the match was reported by Planet Football, the substitute coach praised Kepa: “Not only the penalty, but also the performance.”
“In the last matches, we felt that Kepa was very reliable. His strength is saving penalties , he has shown many times until now. In training, it is difficult to beat. Kepa on the penalty spot, he has the ability to read opponents.
We are very happy with Kepa, he deserves to be trusted because Kepa is a great guy. It’s been difficult for Kepa because Edou (Edouard Mendy) plays really well , but Kepa also trains really well and is an incredible guy.”
